Roberto Vannacci's Futuro Nazionale overtakes Forza Italia to rank fourth in Italian polls

Roberto Vannacci’s newly created Futuro Nazionale, launched in February following his departure from the League, has climbed to become Italy’s fourth-most popular political force, according to a recent SWG poll that gave it 7.5% support, edging out Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia at 7.1% and surpassing the League’s 5.7%. The result mirrors a BiDiMedia survey released at the end of August. The party’s anti-migration, traditional-values platform is drawing voters from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s coalition, which currently trails the centre-left Democratic Party bloc by a slim margin.

Meloni’s Brothers of Italy still leads with 26.8%, though its backing has slipped recently. It is unclear if Futuro Nazionale will eventually enter the coalition, a prospect that has received only tepid responses from its leaders. Meanwhile, Meloni is pushing an electoral reform through parliament, defended as a stability measure but criticized by opposition parties as a self-servicing move.
