Russian missile attacks damage Kyiv's Northern Bridge, halt east-west traffic

Russian strikes hit Kyiv's Northern Bridge, damaging the road and trolleybus lines and prompting traffic limits between the city’s east and west sides.

Russian missile and drone strikes have once again targeted Kyiv’s transport network, this time damaging the Northern Bridge that carries road traffic and trolleybuses across the Dnipro River. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the hit and noted that emergency responders were deployed and traffic between the eastern and western districts was restricted. The strike adds to earlier damage inflicted on the Southern Bridge, forcing commuters onto a limited number of alternative routes and causing heavier congestion.

Authorities reported no casualties from the Northern Bridge attack. Municipal teams are now inspecting the structure and planning repairs, while transport services are being re-routed to cope with the reduced capacity. Kyiv officials have not set a firm timeline for fully restoring the affected crossings, meaning altered travel patterns may persist.

Why it matters

Disruption of Kyiv's main bridges hampers daily commutes and emergency services for millions of residents.

How the sides frame it

MODERATE AGREEMENT

Both camps report the Northern Bridge strike and lack of casualties, but left-leaning coverage stresses the attacks’ broader significance and nationwide casualty toll, while centrist coverage focuses on traffic disruption and municipal response.

LEFT

Frames the strike as part of a widening campaign that has hit Kyiv’s bridges for the first time in war and highlights civilian casualties across Ukraine.

CENTER

Frames the incident as a transport-network disruption, emphasizing emergency response and traffic rerouting while noting no casualties.

The left emphasises

  • first wartime hits on any of Kyiv’s nine bridges
  • 8 civilians killed and 81 injured across Ukraine
  • sequence of attacks on Southern and Northern bridges
