Salmonella Outbreak Spurs Nationwide Jalapeño Product Pulls and Granola Recall

A salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors has led to the removal of jalapeño‑containing items such as salsa, guacamole and salad dressings from retailers including Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Kroger and Target, and prompted restaurant chains Chipotle and Qdoba to stop serving the affected peppers. The outbreak has resulted in reported illnesses and hospitalizations across dozens of states, according to the CDC.

In a separate action, Hampton Grocer announced a recall of its Lacnola Lactation Granola after concerns about salmonella contamination in the organic moringa powder used in the product, advising consumers to discard the affected packages. No cases of illness have been linked to the granola, and the company has suspended production while the FDA investigates.
