Sarawak registers the nation's top Air Pollutant Index reading at 192
Twelve monitoring stations across Malaysia reported unhealthy air quality, with Sarawak's IPD Serian posting the highest API of 192.
The latest Air Pollutant Index figures show that twelve Malaysian stations registered unhealthy air quality early this morning. IPD Serian in Sarawak posted the highest value at 192, with nearby Kuching and Samarahan recording 187 and 183 respectively. In Johor, Sri Aman, Batu Pahat, Pasir Gudang, Kluang and Kota Tinggi posted readings ranging from 158 to 125.
Several stations in Negri Sembilan also fell into the unhealthy bracket. Conversely, twelve stations, including Balik Pulau in Penang and Kangar in Perlis, logged good air quality, while forty-four sites were classified as moderate. The API scale defines 0-50 as good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and 301+ hazardous.
Why it matters
Elevated API levels signal health risks for residents and may prompt pollution control measures.
