Sarawak transport ministry seeks extra flights and buses for upcoming state election

The Sarawak Transport Ministry is contacting airlines and bus operators to add services around the 13th state election, helping voters travel to and from polling day.

In preparation for the 13th Sarawak state election, the state's Transport Ministry has asked airlines and express-bus companies to expand their services surrounding polling day. The ministry highlighted the need for more flights linking Peninsular Malaysia with Sarawak, targeting voters who work outside the state, including in Singapore and Sabah. It also urged bus operators to increase trips from three days before to three days after the vote, deploy standby vehicles and launch online ticketing sooner to avoid shortages.

Adjustments to bus schedules will require notification and approval from the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board, while additional flights depend on airline capacity and regulatory clearance. Operators will announce specific schedules and ticket availability once confirmed. Voters were advised to book early and consult official channels for accurate travel information.

Why it matters

Ensuring transport options helps voters reach polling stations, supporting a smoother and more inclusive election process.
