SEC testimony reveals Vice President Duterte kept board seat at Metro City Chow Foods through 2025

In testimony on the 27th day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, SEC Company Registration and Monitoring Department Director Gerardo Fernando del Rosario said the agency’s filings show Duterte continued to serve on the board of Metro City Chow Foods Corporation from 2022 through the 2025 filing. He reiterated that Article 7, Section 13 of the 1987 Constitution forbids a vice president from engaging in any business activities.

When asked about GenCorp Industries Inc., which Duterte listed on her SALN, del Rosario confirmed that her name does not appear as an incorporator or director in the company’s SEC submissions. Prosecutors and senators probed possible indirect control, with del Rosario suggesting that ownership of a 55% corporate subscriber, JTC Group of Companies, could give Duterte influence without her name appearing on the records. The JTC Group is represented by Jaime T. Cruz in SEC documents. The testimony highlights potential conflicts between the vice president’s declared business interests and constitutional limits.
