Security tightens as RN congress approaches Orléans amid large counter‑protest plans
The Rassemblement National is set to hold its congress in Orléans this weekend. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said tens of thousands of counter‑protesters are expected and that a “very large” security plan will be put in place, including roughly fifteen mobile units and about 2,000 CRS and gendarmes. Army personnel have also been deployed to guard public buildings, while extensive identity checks are being carried out.
Around sixty left‑wing organisations, including the Parti socialiste and La France insoumise, have announced a joint demonstration against the congress. Shop owners in the city centre are boarding up their windows out of concern for possible vandalism.
