Selangor government and Bersatu close in on confidence-and-supply pact
The Selangor administration and opposition party Bersatu are reportedly near a confidence-and-supply agreement that would broaden Bersatu’s involvement in state affairs.
According to Bersatu supreme council member Dr Afif Bahardin, talks between the Selangor government and the opposition party are advancing toward a confidence-and-supply arrangement. If finalized, the pact would secure more than a two-thirds majority for Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari in the 56-seat state assembly. Bersatu aims to have its assemblypersons involved in state administration decisions and to attend government and local authority meetings, a right it previously lacked as opposition members.
The party has ruled out seeking positions in the state executive council or as local councillors. The agreement is expected to be announced shortly, with the goal of benefiting all Selangor residents, including those in Bersatu-held constituencies.
Why it matters
The agreement could reshape Selangor's legislative balance and expand opposition input into state governance.
