Self-described 'unqualified' candidate wins seat on Kelowna council

Brady Rogers, a 33-year-old small-business owner who marketed himself as unqualified with tongue-in-cheek signs, appears to have secured a council seat in Kelowna.

During the recent Kelowna municipal election, Brady Rogers, a 33-year-old entrepreneur, attracted online attention with campaign placards that openly admitted his lack of political experience, using slogans such as “Just trying to pay my rent.” Preliminary tallies released on Saturday gave him 12,635 votes, enough to rank fourth out of 37 hopefuls. Certification of the results on Tuesday would confirm his council seat.

Rogers posted a video after the preliminary count, emphasizing that his self-deprecating messaging was meant to be humorous, not dismissive. He told reporters he has never held elected office but believes his problem-solving background is relevant. His stated priorities include tackling homelessness, improving housing affordability, and aiding small-business owners in the city.
