Senator Lacson warns ICC warrant makes overseas travel risky for Dela Rosa
Senator Panfilo Lacson said the ICC arrest warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa makes any foreign travel far more likely to lead to his capture.
Senator Panfilo Lacson warned that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa faces heightened risk of arrest if he seeks refuge abroad, given the outstanding International Criminal Court warrant against him. Speaking on radio, Lacson explained that while fugitives with local warrants might flee to non-extradition countries, an ICC warrant leaves no such safe options because member states are generally required to act on arrest requests.
The confidential warrant, issued on 6 Nov 2025 and made public on 11 May 2026, accuses dela Rosa of involvement in crimes against humanity during the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal-drug campaign. Philippine authorities have offered a PHP 50-million reward for tips leading to his detention. Lacson, a former Philippine National Police chief, expressed hope that any apprehension would be carried out without violent clashes that could endanger officers and those accompanying the senator.
Why it matters
The ICC warrant ties a Philippine senator to international crimes, affecting diplomatic relations and his ability to travel.
