Senator Rand Paul Calls for Fauci to Face Felony Charges Over Congressional Testimony

On one outlet News Daily, Senator Rand Paul, chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, argued that Anthony Fauci should face felony charges for allegedly lying to Congress and destroying records. The committee had just voted to hold Fauci in contempt after he repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment during his testimony, despite having received a pardon from the Biden administration. Paul explained that while the pardon covers many offenses, contempt of Congress remains punishable.

He cited previous contempt prosecutions of former Trump officials, including Peter Navarro, to highlight the seriousness of the charge. Paul also raised the legal dilemma of whether a pardoned individual can still invoke the Fifth Amendment, noting that courts may have to decide this novel issue. The senator concluded that granting immunity to lie would defeat the purpose of the investigation.
