Severe storm halts flights, trains and roads across Catalonia
Heavy rain in Catalonia forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights, suspended train services and flooded major roads, prompting emergency alerts.
A powerful storm swept through Catalonia, leading to massive disruptions in air, rail and road transport. Barcelona-El Prat Airport experienced almost 250 flight cancellations, and at least one Ryanair flight was diverted from Girona Airport. Floodwaters covered sections of the Ronda de Dalt and other streets in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, prompting drivers to avoid non-essential trips.
The Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya suspended its trains overnight, and several Barcelona Metro stations were flooded, causing temporary closures. Emergency 112 received more than a thousand calls, with hundreds concerning flood-related incidents, while the Emergency Medical System reported dozens of alerts. Interior minister Núria Parlon called on residents in the hardest-hit counties to remain at home as the weather alert stayed in force.
