Six aircraft join hundreds of responders to fight Saturday blaze in Arganil

A wildfire erupted in Arganil, Coimbra on Saturday afternoon, triggering a 13:35 alert and the deployment of six aircraft among other resources.

On Saturday afternoon a fire ignited in the town of Arganil in the Coimbra district, prompting authorities to issue an alert at 13:35. The Portuguese Civil Protection agency responded with a substantial deployment: 140 operatives, 38 fire trucks and six aircraft dedicated to aerial suppression. The incident occurs while roughly 40 municipalities across the Centro and Algarve areas are classified under the highest level of rural fire risk.

The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera has warned that temperatures are expected to climb, increasing the likelihood of further outbreaks. Firefighters are actively containing the flames and monitoring conditions throughout the wider region.
