smart unveils ultra-compact electric #2 for Norway's city streets
smart introduced its ultra-compact electric #2 in Norway, a 2.75 m two-seater with a rear-mounted 60 kW motor and a 6.95 m turning circle.
smart announced the #2, an ultra-compact electric two-seater aimed at Norway’s urban drivers, measuring only 2.75 m in length and featuring a turning circle of 6.95 m, which is markedly tighter than most popular models. Built on the newly developed Electric Compact Architecture, the car is powered by a rear-mounted 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor that produces 130 Nm of torque and is paired with a battery delivering about 290 km of WLTP range.
Fast charging is supported, and the vehicle can also supply power to external devices via V2L. The model will be sold in two configurations for the Norwegian market - Pure+ with standard equipment such as an 11 kW onboard charger and heated driver seat, and Premium adding features like a glass roof, heated passenger seat and a Sennheiser sound system. Production is a joint effort between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, who each own half of the smart brand. The launch is scheduled for spring 2027, with the first cars expected on the road by the following summer, according to Thorbjørn Myrhaug of smart Norway at Bertel O. Steen.
Why it matters
The new smart #2 offers a highly maneuverable electric car for dense city environments, expanding Norway's EV options.
