South Korea nuclear safety chief to join IAEA general conference in Vienna

South Korea’s nuclear regulator, chaired by Choi Won-ho, will be present at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s general conference held in Vienna, Austria, this week. The five-day gathering brings together representatives from roughly 180 countries to address nuclear safety and security issues. Choi will also attend a session of the International Nuclear Regulators’ Association, a consultative group formed in 1997 that includes nine nations such as the United States, Canada, Japan and Germany.

Beyond these multilateral meetings, the NSSC chief intends to meet bilateral counterparts from the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic and Singapore to discuss potential collaborative projects. The agency highlighted these diplomatic engagements as part of its effort to strengthen international nuclear cooperation. No further details were provided about specific agenda items.
