South Korean President Lee Jae Myung Returns Home After UN and Mexico Visits

President Lee Jae Myung wrapped up a two-nation itinerary that began with a speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he outlined a step-by-step approach to halt and reduce North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and positioned South Korea as a “pacemaker” for renewed U.S. dialogue with the North. The same day he met U.S. President Donald Trump, who affirmed his commitment to talks with North Korea.

The delegation then proceeded to Mexico for a state visit that started Wednesday; Lee held summit talks with President Claudia Sheinbaum and the two leaders adopted a joint action plan aimed at deepening economic cooperation and expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence, defence and other fields. Lee is scheduled to fly back to South Korea on Sunday.
