Spanish OHLA launches sale process for Czech construction subsidiary

OHLA said it is looking for a buyer for its Czech unit OHLA ŽS after starting a market study earlier this year.

OHLA announced that it is actively seeking a purchaser for its Czech subsidiary, OHLA ŽS, following a market survey launched in the first quarter with outside consultants. The company reported receiving multiple inquiries about the asset. According to Iva Cachová, the Czech unit cannot comment on ownership changes, which are decided by its Spanish shareholder, but the subsidiary will maintain its high degree of operational independence and keep delivering construction projects while meeting commitments to staff, clients and partners.

The parent group’s objective is to improve its balance sheet, lower debt and set aside reserves in case of adverse outcomes from court cases in Qatar and the United States. OHLA ŽS, part of the OHLA group since 2003, remains a major player in Czech transport infrastructure, having recently completed flood protection works in Brno and sections of a city ring road, among other contracts.

Why it matters

The sale could reshape a key Czech infrastructure firm and affect the financial health of its Spanish parent.
