SPD deputy Cansel Kiziltepe backs talks with Die Linke for Berlin coalition

In the wake of Berlin’s latest election, SPD vice-chair Cansel Kiziltepe, also the city’s labour and social affairs senator, urged the party to begin coalition discussions with Die Linke and the Greens. She emphasized that voters chose a left-leaning direction and that the SPD’s policy overlaps with the other two parties are clear. Kiziltepe, aligned with the party’s left wing, highlighted her shared background with Die Linke lead candidate Elif Eralp.

She dismissed the prospect of a minority or a renewed CDU-led senate as unrealistic. The SPD’s stance comes as Die Linke faces scrutiny over alleged ties to the Rammo clan and controversial pro-Palestinian activists, prompting Kiziltepe to demand a zero-tolerance approach to antisemitism within the party.
