Special trains dispatched to move nearly 10,000 CAPF troops for Delhi protest security
India's railways arranged six special trains to transport about 10,000 Central Armed Police Forces personnel to Delhi ahead of the October 10 protests, boosting security forces to over 26,000.
In preparation for the October 10 demonstrations, the Ministry of Railways organized at least six special trains on short notice to bring nearly 10,000 Central Armed Police Forces members to the capital. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior officials met with the Prime Minister’s Office for nearly three hours to discuss train cancellations, diversions and the logistics of moving troops. A train carrying CAPF personnel reached Delhi on Friday afternoon, with another scheduled for arrival later that night.
The Home Ministry has authorized at least 110 additional CAPF companies, sourced from the CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP and CISF, adding to the 111 companies already present. Together, the 221 companies, each with a sanctioned strength of 120-130, will work alongside the Delhi Police, raising the total security force to over 26,000, the biggest deployment since the 2020 assembly elections and the Delhi riots.
Why it matters
The massive troop movement underscores the government's focus on maintaining order during large-scale protests in the capital.
