Delhi to lose mobile internet for 24 hours ahead of Jantar Mantar protest

The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a 24-hour suspension of mobile internet across central Delhi as authorities prepare for a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10.

In response to a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved a temporary halt to all mobile internet services in central Delhi for a full day. The demonstration, organized by the CJP, seeks the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar after accusations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Police have detained roughly 200 demonstrators near the venue and have warned that thousands of youths nationwide face arrests ahead of the event.

Additional security measures include a reduction in Delhi Metro train frequency, closure of entry and exit gates at 57 stations after 9 p.m. on October 9, and the cancellation of all Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 10. The Namo Bharat stations at Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar will also remain closed until 10 p.m. on the protest day.

Why it matters
