SPRMs investigation into UiTM Holdings' solar payment faces technical hurdles

SPRMs chairman Abd Halim Aman confirmed that the investigation into UiTM Holdings continues, but is hampered by complex technical matters and pending prosecutorial guidance. Central to the probe is a RM42 million disbursement tied to a 50 MW solar installation in Gambang, Pahang, which appears to have been spent on activities unrelated to the project and lacked approval from the company's board. The probe proceeds under Section 23 of the SPRM Act, targeting misuse of authority for personal gain.

SPRM is also assessing additional issues, including potential weaknesses in UiTM Holdings' management, following concerns voiced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The agency originally opened a separate investigation in 2023 into RM157 million losses incurred by UiTM Holdings across several years, scrutinising possible corruption, abuse of power, or fund misappropriation. Anwar has directed UiTM to re-examine its investment governance in light of the multi-million-ringgit losses.
