SSE selects Montrose Port for Berwick Bank B, creating 100 offshore jobs

SSE revealed that Montrose Port has been chosen as the operations base for the 1.4GW Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm, part of a 4.1GW development that may become the world’s biggest. The decision will generate 100 full-time jobs—technicians, engineers and support staff—through the project’s 35-year lifespan, plus 30 construction jobs during the hub’s build-out. First Minister John Swinney and UK Energy Minister Michael Shanks praised the move as a boost to Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain and local economies.

The new operational hub will occupy the South Harbour area, with the port’s existing offices refurbished for the purpose. SSE secured a 20-year CfD contract for the 1.4GW phase and aims to reach a final investment decision next year. Officials expect the broader project could eventually support up to 300 full-time roles if later phases receive funding.
