Strong FrP surge could preserve centre-right control in most major Norwegian cities

A recent municipal barometer commissioned by TV 2 and carried out by Verian surveyed 985 voters across Norway from 2 to 8 September, revealing a tight three-way contest among the Labour Party, the Conservative Party and the Progress Party. The Progress Party’s strong performance is projected to safeguard a centre-right majority in 17 of the 20 largest municipalities, leaving only Oslo and Bergen as potential losses for the bloc.

In Oslo, the right-leaning parties would still fall short of a governing majority by one seat, even if they unite. In Bergen, gains for the Progress Party could tip the balance, but strained relations among the right-wing parties create uncertainty. Tromsø stands out as the only major city still under red-green leadership, with indications that the left may retain power there. The poll’s margin of error ranges from +/- 1.4 to 2.28 points.
