Strong winds shut two Troms bridges, causing major traffic delays
Sandnessundbrua and Tjeldsundbrua in Troms were closed Monday morning due to high winds, halting traffic and forcing long detours.
Early Monday, gusts of about 35 m/s prompted the shutdown of Sandnessundbrua and Tjeldsundbrua in Troms. Øyvind Mevåg of Troms politidistrikt said the bridges could not stay open and the closure length is still unclear. Commuters, including police officers, were stranded, with detours expected to add roughly two hours, and remote work was advised where possible.
Why it matters
