Święczkowski warns three judges could cause Constitutional Tribunal shutdown

Red Sakiewicz pointed to ongoing demonstrations by Gazeta Polska clubs targeting the Constitutional Tribunal, describing them as a response to what he called further repression by Donald Tusk’s government. In the same discussion, Święczkowski was asked about possible developments at the Tribunal and replied that a lack of consequences for alleged constitutional violations could force the court to stop functioning. He emphasized that the three judges—Bentkowska, Szostka and Patyry—would be directly responsible if the Tribunal loses its budget and ability to operate. Święczkowski also mentioned informing the International Association of Lawyers and foreign diplomatic representatives about the situation, and he rejected any threats or blackmail. The remarks suggest a heightened political clash over the independence of Poland’s highest constitutional body.
