Swiss captain Granit Xhaka admits buying fake COVID vaccine proof and skips Nations League matches

In a personal Instagram post, Granit Xhaka admitted that he bought a forged COVID-19 vaccination certificate while he was grappling with strong doubts and anxiety about the vaccine. He explained that this decision was made in a turbulent emotional state and that he now recognises it was a serious error. Consequently, he has chosen to sit out the forthcoming Nations League matches with the Swiss national team.

Xhaka emphasized that he accepts complete responsibility for his actions and will cooperate fully with the appropriate officials to resolve the matter. He also conveyed sincere regret for his conduct during the pandemic.
