Taiwan says it monitors Taiwanese workers obtaining Chinese ID cards

The Mainland Affairs Council confirmed it is tracking reports that Taiwanese citizens working on the mainland are being issued Chinese identity cards, a claim first raised by YouTuber Wen Tzu-yu. Deputy Minister Shen Yu-chung said the administration already possesses comprehensive intelligence on the matter and anticipates that most cases will proceed to court. He described the situation as part of a broader Chinese strategy to integrate and infiltrate Taiwan through united-front operations.

Legislative member Chung Chia-pin reminded that Taiwanese law forbids holding both Taiwanese and PRC citizenship, warning that acquiring a Chinese household registration could strip individuals of their Taiwanese status and rights. The council pledged continued cooperation with judicial authorities to monitor and counter such recruitment efforts.
