Tamil Nadu police file charges against three DMK leaders for insulting chief minister

On September 12, a protest turned contentious when DMK leaders A Raja, P K Sekar Babu and Vasantham Karthikeyan allegedly used insulting language toward Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and cabinet minister CTR Nimal Kumar. The statements were widely shared online, prompting Tamil Nadu Police to register a case accusing the three of inciting violence and disturbing public order. Police declined to elaborate beyond confirming the charges.

In response, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan argued that the party has the right to criticize the government for perceived failures, including alleged crimes, custodial deaths and attacks on women. He claimed the ruling party has offered no answers and has not taken action against alleged criminals. Elangovan said the opposition will persist in confronting the government during assembly sessions.
