Tear gas fired into West Bank mosque as settlers attempt arson on another

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces discharged tear-gas canisters into the Madama mosque near Nablus, causing several elderly worshippers to struggle for breath during evening prayers. Hours earlier, Israeli settlers attempted to burn the Nur al-Din Zanki Mosque in Bazariya, leaving blackened marks and Hebrew slogans on the exterior. The Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs labeled the actions a flagrant breach of the sanctity of worship places and reported that 13 mosques have been targeted since the beginning of 2026.

The ministry also condemned racist graffiti that included a threat aimed at U.S. ambassador Mike Huckabee. The office of President Mahmoud Abbas warned that the escalating attacks risk sparking a broader religious conflict. Separate incidents of settler-linked arson were documented in Beta, Nahalin and other West Bank locales, while Israeli forces arrested at least 14 Palestinians and carried out property demolitions elsewhere.
