Teen dies after police-chased crash on Bristol’s A37, 17-year-old arrested
A teenage passenger was killed when a police pursuit ended in a collision on Bristol's A37, and a 17-year-old was later arrested.
Around 4 am on Sunday, an unmarked police vehicle pursued a white Nissan Juke on Bristol's A37 Wells Road at the junction with Airport Road and Wootton Park. The chase concluded with a collision between the Nissan and a black Audi S3, killing the teenage boy who was a passenger in the Nissan. Two other teenage passengers from the Nissan and the driver of the Audi were taken to hospital, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police subsequently arrested a 17-year-old male at a residential property on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; he was assessed medically and remains in custody. Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been notified, and a detective inspector from the Major Crime Investigation Team is overseeing the inquiry. The road was closed for investigation and reopened later in the afternoon, and police are seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage.
