Teen suspect's detention extended in Yong Peng school murder case

A magistrate has prolonged the custody of a teenage suspect linked to the killing of 16-year-old student Irene Sofiya Khairool Faisal at a Yong Peng school.

Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Othman ordered an extension of the teen's remand after the initial six-day period beginning on Oct 4. The victim, a Form 4 pupil, was discovered unconscious and bleeding in the school hall on Oct 3 and later pronounced dead. Her body was transferred to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for a post-mortem. Police are investigating the homicide under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
