Teenager Soriba Diaoune nets brace as Lille fall 2-4 to Galatasaray

Lille lost 2-4 to Galatasaray in the Champions League, with 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune scoring twice for the hosts.

Lille’s Champions League campaign suffered a setback as they were defeated 2-4 by Galatasaray on Wednesday night at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium. Nineteen-year-old winger Soriba Diaoune, a product of the club’s youth system, marked his second appearance in the competition by scoring twice, first equalising in the seventh minute and then putting Lille ahead before halftime. Galatasaray responded with two goals before the break and added two more in the second half, including a strike from Lucas Torreira after a corner error and a finish by former Lille striker Victor Osimhen. The loss leaves Lille on zero points, making qualification for the knockout stage increasingly unlikely as they face upcoming matches against Bayern Munich and AS Rome.

Why it matters

The defeat deepens Lille’s Champions League woes and threatens their chances of reaching the tournament’s knockout phase.
