Three civilians killed and one wounded in Manipur village chief's home attack

Around 2.24 pm on Saturday, unknown gunmen opened fire on the house of village chief Lhinjahoi Hanshing in Kalenjang, Senapati district, Manipur. The assault instantly killed Rocky Mao and Kumar Poumai and wounded Adani Manio and Ashiho Sani. Sani later succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital, bringing the death toll to three.

District police and central security forces arrived, recovered the wounded and took them to a nearby hospital, where Manio continues to receive treatment. The attack occurred hours after the United Naga Council held a tripartite discussion in Assam on the region’s law-and-order situation following the February 7 Naga-Kuki clashes. Deputy chief minister Lossi Dikho, a Naga legislator in the BJP-led state government, denounced the killings as an unacceptable assault on civilian life and called for collective action to restore peace.
