Three-party coalition to govern Liberec after SLK wins most seats
The SLK movement captured 14 council seats, Lepší Liberec 11, ANO eight and LOL+Piráti six, prompting a coalition of SLK, Lepší Liberec and LOL+Piráti while ANO moves to opposition.
Liberec's recent municipal vote produced four successful lists out of eleven candidates. The SLK movement secured the highest number of seats at 14, Lepší Liberec obtained 11, ANO earned eight and the joint list LOL+Piráti received six. Leaders highlighted programmatic alignment as the basis for a three-party coalition that would command a solid majority in the 39-seat council.
SLK leader Lukáš Hájek emphasized that the alliance hinges on complete agreement among partners. Former mayor Jaroslav Zámečník, who led the city for two terms, chose not to run again and was placed second on the SLK ticket. The previous council configuration, which included ANO, the Pirates and ODS, collapsed after a corruption scandal involving former ODS leader Petr Židka, resulting in ODS falling below the five-percent threshold and losing all representation for the first time since 1994.
Why it matters
The new coalition will determine policy direction and leadership for the Czech city of Liberec.
