ANO's Richard Vereš pushes for a clear coalition plan in Ostrava after election
ANO candidate Richard Vereš says his party secured a win in Ostrava and aims to finalize a governing coalition by next week.
After the recent municipal elections in Ostrava, Richard Vereš stated that ANO met its main objective and is now focused on forming a stable coalition headed by the party's mayoral nominee. He acknowledged a reduction in council representation and the disadvantage of lacking an incumbent mayor, attributing the results partly to national trends linked to the governing coalition. Vereš expressed surprise at SrdcOVA's performance but expected SPD's decline, citing campaign factors and the impact of Motoristé led by Matěj Gregor.
A negotiation team comprising Vereš, Langrová, Baránková and Holuša will meet with four council groups to explore two-, three- or broader coalition options, with a preference for a three-party arrangement involving Ostravak or Motoristé. The party aims to outline a coalition framework within the coming week.
Why it matters
The coalition outcome will determine Ostrava's local governance and policy direction for the next term.
