Three suspects charged in mistaken-identity murder of Sydney student

On the early morning of September 1, a home invasion in Glen Alpine resulted in the fatal shooting of Marco Tapia, a university student, after police determined the address was incorrectly targeted. Initial arrests involved two teenagers, aged 14 and 16, accused of staging the getaway car and supplying the gun. Detectives later captured a second 16-year-old and two men, aged 22 and 23, in Junee, about 400 km southwest of Sydney.

The trio is alleged to have entered the house, confronted Tapia and fired the fatal shot. They have been charged with murder, two counts of special aggravated break-and-enter with a weapon, and possession of an unauthorised prohibited firearm, and all were refused bail. The two men will appear before a bail court, while the teenage suspect will be dealt with in a children’s court. Senior police are expected to provide further updates.
