Tisza Party Calls for Parliamentary Probe into EU Cohesion Fund Misuse
The Tisza parliamentary faction has proposed a six-member investigative committee to examine alleged systemic abuse of EU convergence funds and the failure to achieve poverty-reduction goals.
In a press briefing, the Tisza parliamentary faction announced plans to establish a six-member investigative commission focused on systemic violations linked to the use of EU convergence funds and unmet poverty-reduction targets. The body would review the past twenty years of funding mechanisms and the grave irregularities uncovered by supervisory agencies, aiming to ensure future allocations reach the intended vulnerable populations.
Gyöngyösi István is slated to chair the committee, with Dicső Viktória and Cseh Tamás as members; the governing parties Fidesz, KDNP and Mi Hazánk may each nominate one representative. If the Országgyűlés approves the proposal, the commission will produce a public report detailing the background of any abuses and propose measures for a clean, verifiable convergence policy. The initiative also coincides with a broader push by four Tisza-aligned members to extend the mandates of several parliamentary inquiry committees until mid-2027, covering issues such as child-protection crises and public-asset losses. The effort reflects growing local frustration over delayed or missing EU funding in regions that would welcome the resources.
Why it matters
It seeks accountability for EU funds meant to lift the poorest, affecting transparency of public spending.
