Former central bank governor Matolcsy György to be questioned over alleged financial fraud
Matolcsy György’s defence lawyer said his interrogation by the Central Prosecutor’s Office will begin shortly after he was taken into custody on fraud charges.
The defence team of former central bank governor Matolcsy György informed reporters that his interrogation by the Központi Nyomozó Főügyészség is set to commence imminently. He has been detained on suspicion of committing economic fraud that resulted in a substantial monetary disadvantage and of employing falsified private documents. His lawyer, Bátki Pál, contended that the circumstances do not justify pre-trial detention, citing Matolcsy’s advanced age, orderly living conditions and close relationship with his minor child.
In addition to Matolcsy, investigators took into custody the standing attorney for Matolcsy Ádám’s enterprises and a senior official who officially owns a villa associated with the family. The case is linked to the broader MNB scandal that has been detailed in a documentary about the misuse of public funds. The prosecutor’s office has not yet disclosed the specific actions underlying the charges.
