Toronto 2026 municipal vote swaps veteran councillors for fresh faces, mayoral shift confirmed
Toronto voters elected seven new councillors, ousting several incumbents and bringing back former members, while longtime council veteran Frances Nunziata and mayoral hopeful Brad Bradford left office.
The October 2026 Toronto municipal election produced a mixed outcome, with seven new councillors joining the city hall and several veteran members departing. Long-time councillor Frances Nunziata and mayoral candidate Brad Bradford were among those who lost their seats, the latter also falling short in his bid against Olivia Chow for mayor. New faces include Diana Chan McNally in Ward 4, Chiara Padovani in Ward 5, and former Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith in Ward 19, while former councillor Mike Layton reclaimed a seat in Ward 11.
Eighteen incumbents were re-elected, and a detailed list of returning councillors across all wards was released. The results reshape the council’s composition ahead of the new mayor’s first full term.
Why it matters
The council turnover will influence Toronto's policy direction under Mayor Olivia Chow's first full term.
