Toxicology results for two Ole Miss deaths expected next week amid drug raid investigation

Toxicology reports for the deaths of University of Mississippi students Robert Strang, 20, and Aidan Hamilton, 18, are expected to be finalized as early as next week, according to Mississippi’s Department of Public Safety commissioner. Both families have requested privacy while investigators, including narcotics detectives, continue to examine the circumstances of the fatalities. In a separate operation, Oxford police arrested Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, and Islam Mohamed, 18, after searching Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store and seizing over 500 units of kratom, THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected narcotics.

The shop’s owner, Amer Alowdi, was indicted in 2022 for narcotics trafficking and subsequently left the country. While the state’s special law enacted in 2022 allows homicide charges if fentanyl delivery causes death, Attorney General Lynn Fitch said no link between the arrests and the student deaths has been established. Governor Tate Reeves has pledged state resources to expedite the toxicology testing, which can sometimes take weeks but may be accelerated in this case.
