Trump administration begins mailing $500 refunds to nearly one million overcharged Obamacare users

In a move announced at the Republican midterm convention, the Trump administration said it discovered that many Americans buying insurance on the ObamaCare exchange were charged too much. The Treasury Department will issue $500 checks to nearly one million people, with mailings targeting over 950,000 individuals in 30 states, accompanied by a presidential letter. The president claimed the overcharges amounted to more than $500 million under the Biden administration.

He presented the refunds as the first step of the Great Healthcare Plan, which he says will cut drug prices, reduce premiums, and force insurers to disclose profits and claim-denial rates. The initiative is separate from a previously discussed $5,000 payment that would be triggered by a Republican victory in the midterms. Trump emphasized that the money is being returned directly to “hard-working Americans.”
