Trump proposes dividend payments for communities hosting AI data centers

President Donald Trump said residents near AI data centers could receive direct dividend checks, linking the idea to upcoming midterm elections.

President Donald Trump announced that Americans residing in towns with AI data centers could receive dividend checks, claiming the sites generate significant local income. He framed the proposal as a benefit for teachers, residents and other community members, and linked it to the Republican push for a midterm majority. The remarks coincided with the unveiling of America.gov, an AI-powered gateway for federal services.

Lawmakers including Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders have discussed comparable dividend schemes for communities affected by large infrastructure projects. Political scientist Craig Agranoff described the idea as a targeted voter-payoff to counter resistance to data-center construction. The president also hosted leading tech executives—Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang, Greg Brockman, Dario Amodei, Satya Nadella, Elon Musk, Nikesh Arora and Brad Gerstner—at the White House on the same day.
