Tuanku Muhriz revokes Negeri Sembilan exco appointments after oath refusal
Tuanku Muhriz has cancelled the appointment of Negeri Sembilan's executive council members after they declined to take the required oath.
The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan ordered the immediate nullification of the state's newly appointed exco, stating that all members refused to swear the oath mandated by law. Section XXXVIII(5) of the 1959 State Government Constitution stipulates that an exco member serves only with the ruler's approval. The officials had previously signed a loyalty oath on 7 Ogos and were slated to join the State Executive Council, but their refusal triggered the ruler's intervention.
Why it matters
It shows the monarch's power to intervene in state appointments, affecting the composition of Negeri Sembilan's government.
