The Istanbul chief prosecutor's office reported 38 suspects, with 26 detained and a haul that included drugs, digital equipment, smuggled alcohol and a firearm. In Ankara, officials announced a further 21 arrests connected to the Kaos GL association and said five people remain at large.
Kaos GL claimed more than 50 activists were detained, including over ten taken from their homes, and that authorities blocked dozens of related websites and social media accounts. The operation, labeled "My Family is Safe," aligns with President Tayyip Erdogan's "Decade of Family and Population" program aimed at boosting birth rates. Human rights groups and the European Parliament's Turkey rapporteur have condemned the actions as a severe escalation of repression and a violation of fundamental rights.
