Tusk condemns President Nawrocki after disputed constitutional tribunal oath incident
Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized President Karol Nawrocki for suspending himself following a chaotic oath ceremony for a constitutional tribunal judge.
During a ceremony on Wednesday, Maciej Berek recited an oath to the Constitutional Tribunal while Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty observed, despite the president not being present. Police intervened after protesters confronted the scene, resulting in injuries among demonstrators. The tribunal’s president, Bogdan Święczkowski, stated that Berek had not established a formal working relationship and therefore could not adjudicate.
President Karol Nawrocki responded at a press briefing, saying he was suspending himself from presidential duties. Prime Minister Donald Tusk then released a statement on social media, accusing Nawrocki of undermining the rule of law and asserting that the government would continue to enforce constitutional norms.
