UDMR leader warns of ongoing Russian sabotage as three arrested over Brașov arms plant fire

Kelemen Hunor said Russia's prolonged war includes systematic information attacks and sabotage, and noted three suspects were detained for the Carfil Brașov factory fire.

Speaking on live television, UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor characterized Russia’s extended conflict as a systematic information war aimed at destabilising societies, weakening democratic institutions and polarising populations. He recalled that President Putin had previously outlined “red lines” and linked one outlet sabotage to the broader strategy identified at the 2007-2008 Munich Security Conference. Hunor warned that more sabotage attempts are probable and called for Romania to develop full-spectrum capabilities to defend its citizens, critical infrastructure and industry.

His comments coincided with an announcement by Romania’s SRI and DIICOT that three individuals belonging to a sabotage network directed by the Russian Federation were detained abroad on suspicion of orchestrating the September blaze at the Carfil weapons factory in Brașov. He added that the justice system still has work to do in addressing these threats.
