UK retailers issue urgent recalls over allergens, salmonella and unsafe footwear
Asda, Sainsbury's, and Next have launched immediate recalls after a packaging error, salmonella-contaminated eggs and a hazardous shoe model were identified.
A series of product recalls have been announced across major UK retailers this week. The Food Standards Agency highlighted that Halo Foods Ltd's Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars were mistakenly packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee wrappers, omitting the peanut ingredient and endangering allergy sufferers; the bars have been withdrawn from Asda and Sainsbury's stores. In a separate alert, eggs stamped with the code 3UA1012066, imported from Ukraine by Yasensvit Ltd, were found to carry salmonella, prompting the FSA to advise consumers to discard any such eggs.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards also issued a safety notice for Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille wedge sandals sold by Next, citing a risk that the footbed could separate from the heel and cause injuries. Retailers are displaying in-store notices and contacting purchasers, urging returns for refunds or replacements.
