Ukraine pushes EU accession, sanctions and defence aid at Warsaw Security Forum
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the EU opened two more accession negotiation clusters and outlined new sanctions, defence assistance and a loan from Poland at the Warsaw Security Forum.
During the Warsaw Security Forum, Ukraine's foreign minister Andrii Sybiha highlighted progress on EU accession, noting that the second and third negotiation clusters have been launched, bringing the total to four of six with an aim to complete the process by the end of the year. He praised the EU's recent sanctions decision in Luxembourg, which added roughly 1,600 individuals and firms, and pledged to propose further measures against Russian oligarchs and the shadow fleet.
Sybiha discussed ongoing talks with Lithuania's 2027 EU presidency and emphasized the need to use frozen Russian assets more fully. He announced that Poland is ready to provide a €125 million loan for the purchase of Polish weapons, including the Piorun air-defence system, and expects additional defence, energy and humanitarian assistance from at least five countries. The minister also warned of Russia's escalating hybrid tactics, including attacks on grain shipments, and called for greater international cooperation to keep the Black Sea open. Finally, he mentioned plans to appoint new ambassadors to key states and to seek greater Chinese involvement in peace efforts.
