United Russia Secures Record Majority in Russia's Wartime Parliamentary Vote
United Russia won more than three-quarters of the State Duma seats in Russia's first wartime election, a historic high.
The Central Election Commission announced that United Russia secured 349 out of 450 seats in the State Duma, surpassing three-quarters of the chamber and setting a new record. Turnout reached roughly 60% of the 111 million eligible voters, aided by a three-day ballot and limited online voting. Genuine opposition parties were effectively excluded, while the liberal Yabloko party was removed from the ballot by the Supreme Court.
The election incorporated residents of Crimea and four Ukrainian territories annexed after the 2022 invasion, a move denounced by Kyiv. President Vladimir Putin described the results as a clear endorsement of his policies, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the election of 46 war veterans, most of them from United Russia. The vote occurred amid intense Ukrainian drone attacks, which officials said downed over 1,100 drones and caused casualties and damage in the Moscow region.
