US ambassador says Romania must handle its own political crisis

At a press event in Constanța, US Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg reaffirmed Washington’s confidence in Romania’s democracy while stating that the nation must independently address the controversy surrounding the Bolojan government. He described democratic processes as sometimes deliberately intricate but ultimately the most effective system. The remarks came after one outlet published an account of a dinner in Athens where US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle allegedly warned that the Bolojan cabinet was on the brink of collapse.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu responded that Guilfoyle’s appearance in Romania was part of a private business gathering and fell outside any official diplomatic mandate. She reiterated that official US positions toward Romania are conveyed by the US ambassador in Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg.
